Story
We are fundraising for Sarcoma UK in memory of our treasured daughter and friend, Hannah, who tragically passed away at the age of 29, within 9 months of diagnosis of Sarcoma, a rare cancer. Hannah was fun loving, a wonderful friend to many and a talented special needs teacher. Hannah was an inspiration to all who knew her, teaching us to cherish each moment.
We had never heard of sarcoma before Hannah's diagnosis. GPs are typically not familiar with this cancer. They may only see one case in adults in their career. Consequently, sarcoma is often diagnosed at the late stage.
I have the honour of being a 'Cuppa and Cake' Champion for Sarcoma UK again this year and am organising a Garden Party (open to the public) to honour Hannah's memory. Sarcoma UK raise awareness and support patients and their families to endeavour to improve the outcomes for those suffering from this devastating illness. Last year, our garden party raised £5,651 with generous support from the community, friends, family and local businesses. Further fundraising brought the total on our Just Giving page to a fantastic £6,231. This is our starting point to build upon this year.
The garden party will take place at Rolleston Scout Headquarters (DE13 9AB) on June 30th (2-5pm). The event will go ahead whatever the weather - there is plenty of indoor space. Entry is by donation and includes a free 'cuppa and cake' and entertainment. Attractions include a bouncy castle, garden games, cake sale, hot pork rolls, ice cream, hook a duck, bottle in a bag, colouring competition, children's entertainer, sale of original artwork, raffle and more. You are encouraged to bring a picnic blanket and spend the afternoon relaxing with family and friends.
Thank you in anticipation for your support.
