KINDER SCOUT CLIMB - 19 AUGUST 2023
With your help, I would like to meet my fundraising target, and maybe even exceed it!
Last year I was unable to take part in the KiliTax2022 climb of Mount Kilimanjaro when I developed a painful foot injury a few weeks before we were due to leave which meant I was physically unable to do the climb.
I was bitterly disappointed as I had been looking forward to it and had put in hours of training at the gym to get myself into shape. I'd enjoyed some amazing walks which I wouldn't have done otherwise (see photos in gallery). This included climbing Mount Snowdon at night and hiking up smaller Snowdonian peaks near Betws Coed and Llanberis. I did several practice hikes in the Derbyshire Peak District, the Lake District, and even Gran Canaria. I reckon that I'd climbed between 4,000m and 5,000m in height on all my walks last year - nearly as high as Mt Kilimanjaro (which is 5,895m above sea level).
Now that my foot is better, I am planning a final fundraising push to reach my target by climbing the highest peak in the Derbyshire Peak District (Kinder Scout 636m) on 19 August 2023. It's nowhere near as high as Mt Kilimanjaro but it's a lot easier to get to!
UPDATE: I climbed Kinder Scout as planned on 19 August 2023. The main photo is of me near the top - with the Edale Valley and a wonderful cloudy sky in the background. It was an absolutely glorious day for a walk!
All the money I raise is for a very good cause - Bridge the Gap - which raises funds for two charities - TaxAid and Tax Help for Older People. Together they help people on low incomes in desperate need of help with their tax affairs and with more money both charities can help a lot more people. Demand for their services increases day by day.
Please sponsor me with as much as you can afford. And don’t forget to Gift Aid your donation if you’re a UK taxpayer.
