Story
I am very passionate about causes supporting the British Armed Forces as both my parents served. My father served a full career, during which he also spent time at the MOD’s former Headley Court rehabilitation facility, culminating in being discharged in 2004. My passion and interests for the British Armed Forces have led me to follow a career in supporting veterans and the wider armed forces community - I am currently a post-doc researcher at the Westminster Centre for Research in Veterans, University of Chester.
I follow many veterans on social media platforms; however, I am particularly inspired by Blesma Members Mark Ormrod MBE (former Royal Marine) and Ben Parkinson MBE (former Paratrooper). Reading and listening to their stories were dark and upsetting at times. Still, their strong determination to not let anything get the better of them and surviving against all odds is truly humbling and inspiring.
Blesma, The Limbless Veterans, is dedicated to assisting serving and ex-Service men and women who have suffered life-changing limb loss or the loss of use of a limb, an eye or loss of sight. Blesma supports these men and women in their communities throughout the UK and overseas. Since 1932, they have been the only national Service charity that supports limbless veterans for the duration of their lives.
If you would like to follow my progress in preparing and running my first marathon, I will be posting training and research updates via my Twitter account @DrNatashaGreen.
Thank you,
Tash.
