I chose this charity as in 2018 my beautiful nan Janet 'mini' was diagnosed with mixed Dementia.  Living with dementia is tough for the family, but not least the for the person themselves.  

It is a horrendous, progressively debilitating disease, which slowly destroys memory and thinking skills and is now the leading cause of death in the UK.  One in three people born today will develop dementia in their lifetime, without life changing preventions and treatment.

COVID-19 had a catastrophic impact on people living with dementia and figures show that a quarter of people who died from COVID-19 in England, Wales & Scotland also had dementia.

There are currently no known treatments to prevent, cure or delay the progression of dementia, but together we have the power to change that, and donations like yours are helping to change this.  All money raised will help to make breakthroughs in dementia research possible.

Although it has robbed my nan of her memories, cognitive skills and ability to live a normal life, she hasn't lost her lovely smile and great sense of humour. 

To help raise much needed funds, I have decided to take part in a Sahara Banger Rally.  Departing from Portsmouth UK, the 17 day challenge will take us through Spain, down to the original Dakar Rally route in the desert of Morocco, where we will be tackling hundreds of miles of sand dunes, wadis and rocky tracks.

As it is a banger rally, and to keep in line with the spirit of the event we will be using a 2003 Suzuki Ignis 1.3L 2WD and 'hopefully' making a little car do things that it isn't designed to do.
