Story
Dear Friends,
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Its thought that around 1 in 500 people in the UK have Parkinson's disease, and so most of us probably know someone who is affected by Parkinson's or their carer, usually a family member or friend, who supports them, however, most of us do not know very much about the illness or how to seek support.
Having decided to take a career break this year, given my own experiences of working with individuals who live with Parkinson's , both as a Qualified Social Worker, as well as a friend and family member, I decided to combine my passion for travel and Tango and utilise this opportunity to raise awareness about Parkinson's and raise funds to assist people who are affected it.
Based loosely on the character of Phileas Fogg, I intend to travel from Oxford to Argentina in 80 days and will be travelling overland via France, Spain, Gibraltar and Morocco, where I aim to catch a cargo ship to Buenos Aires. As a Tango student, I would like to explore the world of Tango at every given opportunity by attending local Milongas (social dances) , thereby turning this adventure into a big "Tango-thon".
If you have a few pounds to spare, I would encourage you to donate through JustGiving as it is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
I'm also trying to raise funds through offering my car as advertising space for corporate sponsors and hoping to keep costs down by staying with friends and relatives; by volunteering in exchange for accommodation and meals, as well as by using vegetable oil as fuel.
If you have any questions or suggestions please do not hesitate to contact me.
Many thanks for your on-going support.
Aseem
