Story
Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page!! In short: I am tabbing a long way to raise some cash for Children on the Edge – a charity who help to provide an actual childhood to children who simply don’t have one, and ‘work to restore the ingredients of a full childhood to children living on the edge of their societies'
What I am doing, the details:
Having used a conventional, and somewhat overrated, standard running technique to win the last Chichester Half marathon (by ‘win’, I really mean ‘was within an hour of James Baker who really won it’), plus having set a new military record on the Paras P Company 10 miler (by ‘new military record’ I really mean ‘vomitted and didn’t come last but was 50 minutes slower than the Paras PT’), I have decided to spice things up a bit by tabbing* (as opposed to running) 5 separate events through next year, including two half marathons, two Paras selection events, plus one Special Forces battle fitness test route, and all finishing with Children On The Edge’s very own Chichester Half (http://www.chichesterhalfmarathon.co.uk/):
- Hasting Half Marathon – March 22nd
- Paras 10 – July 4th Colchester
- Fan Dance - July 18th Wales (http://www.thefandancerace.com/)
- Paras 10 – September 6th Catterick
- Chichester Half Marathon October (I believe 11th tbc)
- Portsmouth Marathon - 20th December
So, simply put, all your generously donated sponsorship is for me to complete ALL events in army boots, carrying a minimum of 35lbs, as one big, gigantenormous, sponsored challenge to raise money for http://www.childrenontheedge.org/
n.b. To pre-empt the questions regarding the bergen being a simliar weight to Sofia, and therefore why I am not taking her along: The bergen sits quietly, it remains mostly still, it has never yet asked if we are there yet, and once loaded it is a giver of snacks - as opposed to a taker of snacks.
Should you wish to give it a crack too then let me know! Or even if you are happy to enter some of the events and trundle around with me listening to me grumble about “now I know why you can’t join when you are 39……ish” then that’s brilliant too!
*Tabbing (which is the army term for running a long way wearing boots, combat trousers and a bergen weighing 35lbs plus water)
