Story
Join us this holiday season, as we help feed our local community! TPMG has partnered with Virginia Peninsula Foodbank to collect non-perishable items or monetary donations. Every dollar donated helps provide 4 meals for people in need.
Hunger and health concerns are interconnected. Many families face tough choices between choosing to buy a bus fare to get to work or buy food. Often times they choose inexpensive, unhealthy food because it’s all they can afford. Poor nutrition can lead to an increased risk for developing chronic diseases like diabetes and hypertension. For children, food insecurity has serious health implications including delayed development, risk for chronic illnesses like asthma and anemia, and other behavioral problems. The need is not solely based on loss of income or jobs, but on increased expenses at home. Prior to the pandemic, a family of five would leave for work and school; now they are at home telecommuting and doing virtual school – meaning using more water, electricity, and food. All of these things add up. These times have been particularly tough, the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank saw as high as an 88% increase in requests for food assistance, well over half of the families were all receiving support for the first time.
With your help we can help provide a variety of nutritious meals and non-perishable items to seniors, children, and families in need. No donation is too small.
