Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Having spent 4 years at The University of Warwick - gaining access to some of the best professors in the country - I am concluding my university experience by putting all of the principles I have acquired into practice.
Africa is one of the most widely misconceived landscapes in the world due to its intensely political and deliberate positioning within the global hierarchy. That said, Africa has a beauty and vibrance well beyond the comprehension of many scholars, media outlets and politicians. It is not the duty of African citizens and diasporans to convince the world of the continents wealth. Instead, it is the duty of sincere politicians, institutions and global citizens to endow the continent with the means for upward mobility.
In light of this assertion, I am spending 6 weeks teaching English at a local school in Kayamandi, South Africa. Whilst I typically shudder at the thought of preserving the ever-present Western-centric saviour-complex, I think it is important to recognise the difference between transmitting the tenets of education and installing the appropriate tools for its authentic development.
The cost of the trip is £1,000 and the expenses will cover my meals, accommodation, materials, and more. Any support will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance,
TK!
