Story

Welcome to our TFN Belfast 2014 justgiving page!

Below is some information about the 4 groups pitching in our dragon's den-type event on the 10th December at Belfast City Hall and what they hope to achieve through your generosity.  See the impact your donation could make to people across Belfast and Northern Ireland! Don't forget to state which charity/charities you are pledging to and increase your donation by 25% through giftaid.

Please note that Community Foundation NI is managing the TFN grants so whilst donations/pledges will be received by them for processing, your donation will go to your chosen charity/charities.

Over The Hill Music Collective - Over The Hill Music Collective (OTH) has reclaimed a negative cliché and turned it around.  Its about providing a platform and a voice for older musicians, people who want to use their musical passion who have some music experience and who want to write about that and share their work.  We are also developing our work with people with dementia in residential care homes, using music from their youth as a positive tool.  We have created a community, reduced isolation and allowed people to express themselves through music. Over The Hill aims to provide a platform for older people, addressing freedom of expression, confidence building, reducing stereotypical attitudes and to teach practical, music industry skills for older musicians, songwriters and those who appreciate music.  We will do this as part of a tour providing workshops in art centres and community settings, including residential care homes.  This would be done over 1 year.   www.overthehillbelfast.com

NI Community of Refugees and Asylum Seekers - NI Community of Refugees and Asylum Seekers (NICRAS) is the only refugee led organisation in Northern Ireland, operational for 10 years.  It provides advice, information, support, activities and educational opportunities, and a voice for refugees and asylum seekers in Northern Ireland.  One of NICRAS’ main aims is to further the educational opportunities for asylum seekers and refugees through the provision of information and the organisation of educational programmes and events. Children are especially important in this context as they are most vulnerable to being overlooked as they don’t yet have a voice. The aim of the project is to help and support the educational development of children of asylum seekers and refugees through after-school educational classes and the provision of necessary resources (pens, books, etc). This project also aims to boost children’s confidence and academic achievement in the Northern Ireland school system, which will be an investment for both their futures and Northern Ireland’s as a whole. www.nicras.org.uk

NOW Group - NOW Group is a social enterprise providing training and employment opportunities for people with barriers to employment and learning.  We operate Loaf Catering, which is growing into a sustainable café and corporate catering business.  We are now at a crucial time and need to scale-up, creating more jobs and training opportunities. This project will enable Loaf to have its own premises that will be the engine for all our catering outlets whilst also creating a heart in an extremely challenged community.

Taking a burnt-out bar in West Belfast, we will refurbish the last derelict building on this arterial route and build a vibrant café/bakery social enterprise which will create 10 paid jobs for local people and 20 training placements weekly for people with barriers to training and employment.   www.nowproject.co.uk

Outburst Arts - Outburst was established by volunteers in 2007 to challenge homophobia and intolerance in Northern Ireland and to celebrate diversity through quality arts provision and world-class programming. Outburst offers unique spaces to have our voices and experiences as LGBTQ people heard, to share stories and use world-class arts events as a springboard to discussion, raising awareness and energy for change. We believe that an equal society creates a happier, more prosperous and creative Northern Ireland. Outburst Arts Festival aims to champion equality for LGBTQ people through the arts and effect positive social change in Northern Ireland through celebrating diversity.  www.outburstarts.com
