Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Inspired by my partner Phil's success in the Great North Run for 2011, I have entered the Great North Swim 2012. I am swimming 2 miles in Lake Windermere, for the Surrey Care Trust with whom I have been a volunteer for around four years.
The Surrey Care Trust’s Vision is to transform the life chances and aspirations of local people who are marginalised by disadvantage or lack of opportunity, or who need a second chance.
I am a volunteer with their Swingbridge community boats. Local waterways are a wonderful place for people to learn skills and gain confidence and self-motivation.
One of the activities that is part of the Swingbridge programme is environmental work along Surrey waterways, which gives people an opportunity to make a contribution to the community and feel more valued and learn new skills at the same time.
One of the Swingbridge boats is used in the spring and summer to give trips to people from community groups. With its wheelchair lift, its accessible to wheelchair users and people with disabilities that limit their mobility.
