Story
The past year has been tough for everyone but coronavirus has hit people affected by dementia the hardest and continues to disrupt lives. So that's why I'm making a splash and taking on Swim for Dementia. Please donate to support me and ensure Alzheimer's Society can be there for the people who need them most.
That's my Dad in the middle above, in his early twenties - shirt off, loud haler in hand, at a holiday camp having alot of fun by the looks of it. Dad is 91 now, and has Vascular Dementia which started 8 years ago after a stroke - he still likes a giggle.
It has touched our family in other ways too - Dads sister has Dementia and Mums sister Alzheimers. It's cruel. Some of you will know I moved home this year to help care for Dad, my brother is here too. We are lucky to be able to do this, many people live with this horrible disease alone, some struggle to get support.
I wanted to do this swim the for the Alzheimers Society because their support and knowledge has been a lifeline in a storm. Dementia touches so many lives and will touch so many more in the future... and of course for my Dad - Roy John Charles Butcher who taught me to swim.
