Story
Our lovely friend, colleague, former Tri Club member and all-round fabulous human Rebecca (Bex) Hind has been courageously fighting an extremely rare and aggressive cancer since she was diagnosed with it in early 2019. Bex has remained positive whilst enduring 8 rounds of chemotherapy and two major operations, the last of which, appropriately known as “The Mother of all Surgeries” resulted in the removal of the majority of her abdominal organs.
To keep herself fit and strong she has been cycling and swimming as much as possible, with the occasional short run added to the mix for good measure. Swimming is one of Bex’s true passions, and she’s pretty good at it too!
In early March 2020, as she recovered from surgery, friends rallied round and launched the “Swimathon for Bex”, a fun and hugely successful event that raised mo eye for The Christy Charity to use to care for and treat patients such as Bex with Pseudomyxoma Peritonei and to fund the much-needed research to better understand this horrific disease. That year, in conjunction with a few other events, Bex and her family and friends raised just over £10,000!
Her fantastic medical team were cautiously optimistic but unfortunately just 6 months after the “all clear” Bex learnt the cancer was back and treatment options are now limited to clinical trials that have yet to be developed. To help focus and support Bex and to raise more much needed money for the charity that faces increasing funding challenges due to COVID-19, we decided another event was called for. Enter the “Swimathon for Bex 2”. This time bigger and better and back by popular demand.
To enter a team in the Swimathon for Bex we ask for a minimum donation of £20 then register your team by emailing swimathonforbex@gmail.com with the names of your team members no later than Friday 27 August at 5pm.
