Story
Thank you for visiting our fundraising page.
I decided to celebrate my 50th birthday by swimming 50 lengths to raise money for a really good cause - Calcutta Hope, a charity in which my friend Steve is closely involved, that works to save homeless children in Howrah Station, Calcutta and give them a home and an education.
It is my daughter's 21st birthday too (another big date) so we are doing this jointly. I'm swimming and Ruthie's rattling the tin!
£30 sponsors a child for a month.
A donation of £365 ensures a child is sponsored for a whole year.
There are lots of things I might have liked for my birthday, the DVD of Slumdog Millionaire, a trip in a balloon, a visit to Poland, singing lessons... but none of these seems so worthwhile as giving a child back their lost childhood and offering them a decent future. Furthermore it is a very small charity and Steve has recently visited teh home and school in person so I am assured that the money is actually going to the right place.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Calcutta Hope gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Although the swim-date is past and the swim was good, I am still trying to bust the £1,000 mark with my Fund Raiser for Calcutta Hope. So please do continue to donate. The page stays open for donations until September.
So please sponsor me now!
If we reach £3,000 I'll dye my hair blue!
