The Children’s Air Ambulance is an inter-hospital transfer service flying critically ill babies and children from one hospital to another for specialist care. With our ability to fly approximately four times faster than a land ambulance, we can minimise travel times and the risk for patients.

Story

Anna and I have experienced the great work this charity does first hand. Last October, whilst at a friends wedding in Leeds Anna went into labour on the dance floor not long after the bride and groom had finished their first dance and our son, Freddie was born a few hours later almost two months premature. Freddie was taken to the Special Care Baby Unit to be looked after until he was well enough to come home. Everyone agreed it would be better for us as a family to have Freddie in a hospital closer to home but he was too delicate to make the 5 hour journey to London by road. The Children’s Air Ambulance was called in to transport Freddie and he was flown to London’s Chelsea and Westminster Hospital at just 2 days old and is now a very happy and healthy 9 month old.

The Children’s Air Ambulance is the first and only dedicated helicopter emergency transfer service for seriously ill children and babies, flying them between hospitals often to access more specialized treatment alongside their team of clinicians. It relies entirely on public donations and support to run the service which helps poorly children across the UK.

To help raise much needed funds for the charity, on the 6th September 2014 eleven friends and I will be swimming 5km from Ryde on the Isle of Wight to Alverstoke in Gosport.

Thank you in advance of your generosity,

Nick, Anna and Freddie
