Story
I joined St Margaret's in January 2014 for year 4. That year I became close friends with Evie and we had a lot of fun together till the end of year 6, we obviously did some work too. Evie was so kind when I joined and really helped me feel part of the school and make new friends a lot more easily. It was so heartbreaking when I heard about her illness (she had a brain tumour). Evie really fought hard and was so brave. Her parents, Brian and Patsy, spent so many nights in hospital at her bedside. They realised how hard it is financially for families who are going through really difficult times when their children are in hospital to cope. They had the inspiring idea to set up Evie's Gift in memory of Evie. That's why I chose this charity.
What do Evie's Gift do?
"Evie's Gift has two main aims: to give immediate financial assistance to parents whose children have been admitted to hospital with a life threatening or life limiting condition, and to fund research into the rare brain cancer that took her from us too soon."
I had planned to do the Padstow to Rock annual swim, but due to Covid I can't. So I am going to swim 2 miles (double the distance) for Evie's Gift in the school pool on Wednesday 26th May.
