Story
In September 2018 I joined the beginner’s running course with Fremington Trailblazers with my husband Lee, and since then have developed a love of running - the benefits for my physical and mental health have been immeasurable. Last year I joined one of my fellow Trailblazers, the lovely Sue, during her marathon training, and ran my longest run to date of 20 miles in August. Watching Sue's progress on the app as she completed her marathon run in October was emotional and inspiring and made me consider applying for a place this year myself - something I had never previously thought possible.
Although I was unsuccessful in my application for a ballot place for London 2022, when one of my dear friends and running buddies Tracey secured a Gold Bond place with the North Devon Hospice I decided to train with her to support her along the way. I am delighted to have now been offered a Gold Bond place myself!
I am acutely aware of the devastating effect that a diagnosis of cancer can have on the whole family, and the support that the Hospice provides for the individual and their loved ones is invaluable.
In the last year I have lost two friends to this cruel illness, both taken far too soon and leaving a huge gap in the hearts of their families and all who knew them. Running the London Marathon in memory of Lisa and Kev will be a honour - I know that running 26.2 miles is going to be tough, but the thought of being able to raise funds to enable the Hospice to support families like theirs will make every step worthwhile.
