Why am I doing this…? Good question🤷♀️?!
💜 In 2013 we said our goodbyes to my amazing dad . He spent his last days in The Hospice. It wasn’t his original plan to go into The Hospice, but he chose to go in there towards the end. Therefore none of us really knew what The Hospice was or offered. If it was scary for us (myself, my sister Debbie & my mum Gloria), it really must have been terrifying for dad 💛. But it enabled us all, but especially mum who had been providing care for dad, to be with dad and allow the care to be taken over by the wonderful team of people there. They not only cared brilliantly for dad, but also ourselves which we didn’t realise how much we needed. They answered questions, they were reassuring and most importantly were just there for us all. I wasn’t an easy time, but they made it as easy as it could be and we will honestly never forget it 💜
🤍 Since that time I have fundraised for them doing many crazy things (all of them dad would have most definitely approved of 🥰!!) and even got my niece involved when at 16 she did a tandem skydive 🪂! But this one .. I think even dad would have to question my sanity 🤪😉 but I’m sure would approve 🤍
🏃🏼♀️So what are we doing .. we’re running from Lands End to John o’Groats .. some 1030 miles (not the shortest way it can be done!) and some 70,000ft of elevation. We run for 6 out of 7 day’s for 5 weeks. We average 33 miles per day. We are doing this supported by a company called Rat Race. Training has started, the miles need to build up on the legs, there’s strength work to be done, nutrition to understand, recovery strategies to have in place🏃♀️
📎So that brings us back to the question .. ‘why are we doing this?’ .. because we can & the people in the care of The Hospice can’t, their fight is much bigger, much braver than anything I can attempt to do. Dad showed a bravery and a dignity with his illness that I feel is far greater than the pounding of these miles that I’m attempting. So when the going gets tough, and I’m under no illusion it will, his strength will carry me. 📎
💛 To my dad “you’ve pushed me through marathons, & ultra distances 🏃♀️ up mountains 🏔 and out of planes ✈️ & got me through situations that have been tough.. ever present in my thoughts and life ~ making the best version of me I can be with your guidance. There is no doubt in my mind, I’ll need you there to push me through this one 💛
