Our friends,Chris and Gareth are cycling from Manchester to Blackpool on behalf of Sarah with money going to the cardiac unit at Alder Hey Children's Hospital. We have been overwhelmed with people'skindness so far and we have had to edit our target twice already! We can't thank people enough.
Sarah was born with a very complex heart condition and was transferred to Alder Hey cardiac unit when she was less than 24 hours old. Her first open heart surgery scheduled when she was one week old had to be postponed because she had an infection and it was another week before she was well enough to have the surgery `she needed to keep her alive. The care and support Sarah and us as parents received from the cardiac team was incredible. Sarah did not give any of us an easy time and had her own idea about how she should and should not be responding to things! With the continuing support of Alder Hey and our own local hospital, The Royal Oldham, along with help from the community nurses, health visitor and GP, Sarah thrived at home and we knew that help and advice was only a phone call away. It was thought that Sarah would need her next open heart surgery quite quickly after her initial surgery but because she was doing so well it was put on hold. Sarah is now scheduloed for surgery at the end of June 2011. The cardiac unit at Alder Hey gave our daughter the chance of life and we do not have words enough to thank them. Having a sick child is everyone's worse nightmare. We were amazed how many children are born with heart conditions of varying severity. We want to give something back to this wonderful place so that the cardiac unit at Alder Hey can continue to give families the hope of a future for their precious children just as they have done for us.
thanks to chris for all his efforts completing the ride from manchester to blackpool and to every1 who has given towards the cause.
