Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
This page has been set up in memory of Susan Rippengale - a loving wife, mum, nan, sister, daughter and friend to so many.
Our Story
On the 3rd November 2022, we tragically lost our lovely Sue and wonderful Mum to Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML), an aggressive form of blood cancer. Sue was poorly at home with what appeared to be flu-like symptoms. In an unrelated incident, Sue had a fall at home and as a result was taken to the hospital to be checked over. During this time and following routine blood tests, we were shockingly told that our Mum had been diagnosed with AML. Sue was to undergo an intensive treatment of chemotherapy to help treat the illness. She was moved to St Barts hospital in London that evening to receive specialist care and there seemed to be a glimmer of hope for us all. However, after deteriorating overnight we were told the devastating news, that our darling Mum wouldn’t make it. Less than 15 hours after receiving her diagnosis, Sue sadly passed away - she was just 59 years old.
As you can imagine, this has come as the biggest shock to us all and there are no words to describe the pain that we as a family are all feeling. Our family has been torn apart and Sue will be missed every moment of every day.
For everyone who knew Sue, they will remember her beautiful smile, infectious laugh, warmth, kindness, and big heart.
The Charity
We are fundraising for Blood Cancer UK to help raise awareness about this deadly cancer.
Blood cancer is the fifth most common cancer in the UK. Sadly, the symptoms of blood cancer can go unnoticed. The symptoms vary and this can lead to them being ignored or sometimes dismissed. We are hoping that by raising awareness and sharing Sue’s story we can help stop other families going through the same thing we did.
Blood Cancer UK is a community dedicated to beating blood cancer by funding world class research and campaigning for better treatments. They provide a range of support to those diagnosed and living with blood cancer as well as supporting the families affected.
