Story
In just a few weeks time (17 October 2013) I will take on Mount Kilimanjaro – Africa’s highest mountain.
By climbing the massive 19,336ft mountain I hope to raise £5,000 for children’s charity Action for Children. This charity helps vulnerable children all over the UK, tackling issues such as child abuse and neglect.
I will be taking the Rongai route which is the only higher quality, lower traffic route, which gives a real sense of untouched wilderness. I have been training extremely hard for this and as this will be my first climb, I need to try and prepare myself as best as possible for the extreme weather conditions. These extremities range from blistering heat with temperature in excess of 28 degrees Celsius to temperatures that can drop to lows of –26 degrees Celsius. Despite facing these life-threatening conditions such as altitude sickness and hypothermia I am determined to finish this challenge and raise the £5,000 target for the charity.
Since the summer I have been training intensively, fitting in two-hour workouts five days a week. To get my body ready for the epic climb I have also had to change my diet – sitting down to a total of seven balanced meals a day.
I have been a long-term supporter of Action for Children and children’s charities are important to me especially since I had my two children a few years ago. I hope to make everyone proud.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support both emotional and financial. I would also like to thanks Women of Influence for their help over the last few months and to Intelligent Data Service for sponsoring my challenge.
