I got promoted to AUNTIE back in July 2020 and I discovered a love I never knew possible. I had a new best friend and it was going to be fun at all times. My girl gang extended in August 2021 when my second niece joined us and it was going to be us Kearney girls against the world.
Devastatingly our bubble came crashing down in a matter of days. As you know my gorgeous youngest niece was diagnosed with retinoblastoma (childhood eye cancer) in June of this year. As you can imagine this came as a massive shock to the whole family and if it wasn’t for her beautiful big bright smile we wouldn’t be coping. Our little chunk hasn’t even celebrated her first birthday yet!!
This charity are amazing and support many families fighting this awful disease. Orla has to travel from Dumfries to Birmingham and then up to Glasgow for all of her treatment. She has spent more time between the three hospitals than at home with her big sister. The teams have been absolutely amazing and we are forever grateful to the charity and the NHS during this difficult time. They are always available and take as much pressure including funds etc off of everyone.
As her auntie and as a nurse I felt absolutely useless and felt I should be doing more. I regularly donate blood and appreciate if anyone can spare an hour to donate a unit of blood. A simple yet effective way to help Orla and others. I can’t think of a better way to offer my extra support than supporting the charity that are working away in the background at all times. Due to the distance Orla is to travel I have decided to fundraise for this amazing charity and have decided I will cycle the distance Orla travels in a 24 hour period which is 510 miles!! (Please pray for my bum 🤦🏻♀️🙏😄)
I have decided to start tracking the miles from Monday the 29th August which is Orla’s first Birthday.
Please take a moment to read all about the amazing work in which this charity offer. All donations greatly welcomed and very much appreciated.
