Story
My mum, Carol MacBain and I, have decided to undertake the huge challenge of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in September to raise money for Alzheimer Scotland.
We are aiming to climb Mount Kilimanjaro on behalf of Alzheimer Scotland as my gran (my mum's mum) suffered from Alzheimer's which is an extremely cruel brain disease. Alzheimer's destroys brain cells which impacts upon memory, thinking and every day normal behavior. As Alzheimer's progresses, problems with memory loss, communication, reasoning and orientation become more severe with patients then requiring full time support for day to day activities.
Over the time we have been fundraising and training for the challenge my gran sadly passed away from this disease, which makes it even more important for us tor raise as much as possible.
Alzheimer Scotland is the leading dementia charity in Scotland, offering support for patients with Alzheimer's and their families, offering innovative and personal support services. Alzheimer Scotland needs to raise the equivalent of £15,000 each day in order to help people with dementia and their families. Any money donated will contribute towards:
- Delivering local services at over 60 sites across Scotland;
- Support Dementia Nurses to improve standards of healthcare for people with dementia;
- Fund scientific, clinical, social and policy research into dementia; and
- Make sure that the Dementia Helpline is available 24 hours a day to anyone who needs it.
