Story
Hello you! Yes, you!
Firstly, thank you so much for visiting my JustGiving page. Here's a bit about me and why I'm rowing 200,000 metres to raise funds for Young Women's Trust.
I'm a 23-year-old financial adviser from Halifax, West Yorkshire. I have had the complete privilege of working within my Mum's financial advisory firm to begin building a stable and successful future for myself. Unfortunately though, my sector, the UK financial services industry, has the largest median gender pay gap of any sector:
In 2021, the mean weekly gross earning of a woman in the financial and insurance industry was just over 60 percent of that of a male employee.
Of course, this is just one of many sectors that suffers from gender inequality. However, my personal experiences and lack of opportunities were what led me to discover Young Women's Trust.
Young Women's Trust offers support to young women aged 18 to 30, who are living on low or no pay and want to build a better future. They campaign for young women's equality in the workplace, with four very clear goals:
- Unlock young women’s potential
- Smash career stereotypes
- Value women’s unpaid work
- Build equal workplaces
So, to support their amazing cause, I have decided to put myself through a brutal indoor rowing challenge: rowing 200km in one month in May 2022. As someone who regrettably exercises very little nowadays, yet loved rowing at university, I thought it was the perfect, albeit savage, challenge.
If you support my cause, I would really appreciate your donation, no matter how big or small. You can also follow my educational Instagram page @beth_financialplanner where I'll be posting updates each day in May to keep track of my progress. If you're still here, thank you for reading this message. See you soon!
