Story
You too can make a difference!
As the rest of the world looked from a far at the mounting human suffering in and around Ukraine, the next generation of leaders took action. Five Bristol students spent a week of their studies during a critical point to fly to Poland and volunteer to help Ukrainian refugees and share their heartbreakingly human stories. We watched as they left, in awe of their inspiring actions, and we helped them in any way we could. They're ordinary people, doing extraordinary things.
They put everything on the line to help, leaving behind friends, family, comfort and security to help the millions of Ukrainian refugees without homes in any little way they can in Poland. They threw themselves into it, feeding Ukrainian refugees, helping sort through supplies, volunteering to assist refugees communicating in Russian, and sharing the Ukrainian sunflower of hope. The ripples of their actions spread from a BBC interview to a BBC article and the momentum is still going. The story of the simple sunflower, the national Ukrainian flower of hope and peace, grew from the seeds of a single act of kindness by three small Ukrainian girls. It delivered a somber reminder from our Ukrainian friends in the student community, that this is not a matter of politics, this is a matter of shared humanity: Ubuntu.
We are the next generation of leaders, and we are the blooming sunflowers of your consciousness. Share the sunflowers of hope and peace far and wide. The time to act is now.. Sunflowers for Ukraine.

I, Franco Labia, have started us off with a donation, dedicated to my mother, Glynnis Underhill, who continues to be my inspiration. She dedicated her life’s work to helping others and fighting corruption as an award winning investigative journalist in South Africa. Mom, I hope this makes you smile when you see this, as I always do when we have our daily calls.
