Story
Sugarplum Children offers help and support to parents of young children who have type 1 diabetes, and was set up by Jubie Wigan, following the diagnosis of her daughter Aliena, at the age of just two and a half in 2012. At the moment, this is an incurable disease, and she, and the thousands of other children like her, have to endure the same daily procedure: 6-8 finger prick blood tests, and 4-6 injections (or pump infusions) every day, which as traumatic as it can be at times, is sadly a necessity in order to keep her alive.
Sugarplum is a website and fundraising initiative aimed at children who have type 1, which offers help, advice and support to both them and their parents, as well as friends and relatives for whom a basic understanding of the disease is a necessity. It is an online forum for children to swap stories and most importantly, to realise that there are other children like them; that they're not the only ones with this condition, and for parents to feel less bewildered.
