Story
Well, we successfully completed the course and with remarkably few injuries other than a few blisters and a nose bleed!
We were not among the fastest teams as there were lots of fit youngsters and army types taking part, but we plodded around in a respectable 13 hours and never got lost, thanks to the navigator's super map-reading skills, ha ha.
Just to recap, I was part of a team taking part in the annual Ten Tors Challenge run by the St James's Place Foundation, a charitable trust that helps a variety of good causes, notably helping children and young people with special needs; and the hospice movement.
The Ten Tors, as the name suggests, entails climbing 10 of the highest points on Dartmoor in Devon. It's rough, wild, rocky and boggy terrain and the weather can be very bad even in summer, though we were lucky and had bright sunshine with a cool, stiff breeze. We were quite glad to be walking rather than marshalling as the poor marshalls atop each tor had a very cold time of it and were often to be found snuggled together behind a boulder for warmth as they waited for the latest batch of walkers to come struggling up their tor.
Thanks to everyone who has donated offline, and if anyone is planning to do so but hasn't seen me, why not do so on here to help us collect the funds soon.
