Story

I was in Kenya in May, working with A Rocha Kenya at their Mwamba Centre as a volunteer. I was helping to create some resources for visitors to their community- based eco-tourism and conservation projects, and I was lucky enough to visit the Arabuko-Sokoke Forest,  Mida Creek and Gede Ruins where there are some amazing indigenous species which are threatened by habitat loss, but which are being supported by A Rocha Kenya projects.

The research team are needing equipment, such as binoculars, and the centre is subject to frequent power cuts which cause problems in communication and research work, so a generator would be an enormous help to them. The money I raise will go towards these essential tools for their work.

In June, I climbed Mount Kenya, after my time at Mwamba, as a grande finale to my holiday! We started on 11th June and, got to the top on 14th. We went up the Sirimon Route from near Nanyuki and the two guys who went up with me went back down that way, while I came down the Chogoria Route, which is even more spectacular with lava flows, waterfalls and amazing rock formations as well as strange and beautiful plants and animals.

Although I said I'd be putting pictures on this page while I was in Kenya, it turned out that I'm having to do that now, after I get home, so I hope you have revisited the page to see the photos... I also kept a blog during my time at Mwamba with A Rocha Kenya (and have completed the rest of it since I got home) - visit suemstravels.blogspot.co.uk to see a lot more pictures and read about my big adventure!
