Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, I'm sue Flewitt and this is my story.

On 25th September 2011 I shall be running the Run to the Beat Half Marathon for Headway Essex.

Although the run itself should be fairly straight forward for a keen runner like myself, life has not been straight forward for my Brother and Family since November 22nd 2009. On this day my Brother suffered a major head injury after a kite surfing accident, you can see some of the details by looking through the photos on this page.

People who have suffered a Brain Injury are sometimes called the walking wounded as its not always apparent there is anything wrong, but for those suffering it is completely life changing and not in an easy way. Coming to terms with this is extremely difficult and personalities can change. Recovery can take years and some never fully recover.

Headway Essex were and are a huge comfort at times when you do not know who to turn to and need help and advice!

To find out more about Brain Injury visit Headways website where David Tennant is their Patron. He also stars in a film called Recovery which can be found on YouTube and is very life like of someone with a Brain Injury. there is also another programme about a real life story called My New Brain which went out on channel 4 and although quite funny at times, is also very painful and sad.

19th February 2011, Thankyou to all those who have donated so far. I have raised over £100 so have now received my official Headway running Vest. Which I am really excited about!

26th August 2011, the bad news is I may not be able to run the Half Marathon, much to my huge disappointment especially with all the training I have put in. But I have an on going injury with my ankle and don't want to put myself in alot of pain through pushing myself. Time will tell. The Good news is both my brother and my Mum are going to run so its become a family event!! We want to continue raising money and awareness as a team.
