We provide crisis support to those considering suicide

Story

In 2022 we lost Stuart and Helen’s brother Richard aged just 58.

He was a much loved member of our family as well as being a loving Dad to his sons Jonathan and Daniel and cherished friend to Penny.

We want to think of Richard’s life through a positive lens, he was a kind and gentle man who genuinely cared about other people.

He was clever, talented and had an infectious laugh.  Our world seems to have a Richard shaped hole in it that will never be filled.  We want to create a legacy for Richard and welcome all donations.

We are asking friends and family to join us on a walking expedition. We have signed up to do a virtual walk between Lands End and John  o’Groats between 1st January and 12th June.  We will be walking independently every day but also trying to arrange a number of organised walks where our friends and family can come together to walk with us or say hello and raise money for a local charity that we wish Richard had been aware of. We also wish to raise awareness of suicide prevention.

We have visited the Martin Gallier Project, met and talked at length to its founder and really want to fund raise for them.  There is more information in the link provided about the vital work they are doing, as the only suicide intervention, prevention and postvention service in the North West of England.

We will be using social media to celebrate our milestones having reached our 100 mile target on Wednesday 18th January,150 mile target on Friday 27th January, 200 miles target on 3rd February, 250  mile target on 11th February, the 300 mile target on 19th February, 350 miles target on 27th February, 400  mile target on 8th March , 450 miles on the 17th March, 500 miles on the 23rd March, 550 miles on the 30th March, 600 miles on the 6th April , 650 miles on the 13th April , 700 on the 20th April, 750 on the 29th April, 800 on 5th May and 850 on the 11th May., 900 on 20th May, 950 on 30th May and completed our walk on 11th June.

Whilst logging our miles into our virtual walk we will also be walking in places  which were important in Richard's life.

We visited Christ Church college in Oxford where he studied on 9th February.

We walked 33 miles in Yorkshire on the 14th - 16th April walking the York Walls, Whitby to Robins Hood Bay return and Heart Beat Country. Richard lived in Church Fenton with his family when he was a Senior Dubbing Mixer at Yorkshire TV between 1999 - 2006.

We walked  to Hilbre Island on the 5th May with 25 of our friends.

We walked 36 miles on the Thames Path and surrounding area  from Teddington to Greenwich on the 13th and 14th May. Richard trained as a studio manager at the BBC at Broadcasting (Wogan) House in 1988 and also worked as a dubbing mixer in Telecine in central London from 1994 - 1999 and as Audio Team Leader at Sky from 2017-2018

We completed  our 1000 mile walk at the Wirral Coastal Walk on 11th June with some of our friends from the Martin Gallier trust and several family members who all came together to remember Richard.
