I work for the National Asbestos Helpline (www.nationalasbestos.co.uk) and I have seen the devastating affect of mesothelioma on people and their families. 

This terminal lung cancer is caused by breathing in asbestos dust and fibres. It takes 10 to 50 years to develop but when it does take hold, it is an aggressive and unforgiving disease.

Mesothelioma is a relatively rare form of cancer and because it affects mostly people of retirement age, there is very little awareness and funding for research - but the brilliant Mick Knighton Mesothelioma Research Fund and the British Lung Foundation are trying to change this.

The Fund has helped four major research studies into the disease - where there were previously none - and is battling to help ensure fewer people have to go through the pain and suffering that Mesothelioma causes.
