Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Craig Gowans was an immensely talented young footballer, growing artist and academic. He died tragically on the 8 of July 2005, in a training ground incident aged just 17, two weeks after signing a professional football contract with Falkirk FC.

Craig was one of the most genuine and talented individuals I ever had the pleasure of knowing and playing alongside.  On the 10th year anniversary of his passing, myself and 35 others are attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the longest 11-a-side football match ever (The record currently stands at 72 hours).

The venue is Ainslie Park, Edinburgh (home of Spartans FC). We’re hoping to raise £37,000 (Craig’s shirt number) for the Sick Kids Friends Foundation on behalf of the Craig Gowans Memorial Fund.

The money raised will help fund enhancements to the new Sick Kids hospital at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France. We’re aiming to raise funds for a state of the art Snoezelen room in Craig’s name. This is a calming room with multi-sensory equipment to provide a relaxing and stimulating space, important for children with sensory impairments.

This event is classified as an 'extreme endurance event'. Please help myself, and the rest of the players, reach our goal and continue to use Craig’s name as a force for good.
