Story

100,000 babies are born into severe poverty* in the UK each year.  125 years ago, Johnson & Johnson the company renowned for generations for much-loved baby products, was founded.

This year Johnson and Johnson UK have partnered with Save the Children in support of the charity's new initiative called Eat, Sleep, Learn, Play! to help those most in need, giving children a better start in life and the chance to fulfil their potential by making a small intervention at a critical time.

Between the 29 Oct and 6 Nov 2011 teams of employees in Johnson & Johnson sites across the UK will be taking part in a fundraising and celebration event to drive awareness and raise more funds for this great and much-needed cause.

The Challenge

Called “Strive for 1-2-5”, the Core of the Challenge is to complete a 125km physical challenge: running, walking, cycling and rowing (or a combination of all these) as teams or individuals at various Johnson & Johnson sites across the country.  How many 1-2-5 challenges can each site achieve? There are also category entries for the “Most Creative 1-2-5” and “Most Challenging 1-2-5”!

Johnson & Johnson employees have really got behind this cause and are planning some challenging (and certainly interesting(!)  events including...

·         1-2-5 triathlons (easy, medium, difficult ) and 125 themed gym classes throughout the event week

·         A 125-person line dance

·         An “Elite competitor” doing an individual 125km challenge: 100km cycle, 20km run and 5km on a scooter

·         125 children colouring competitions, 125 car washes and 125 cake bakes ... and much more

All the funds raised will go to supporting the Eat, Sleep, Learn, Play! programme and the ongoing  Crisis in East Africa

Douglas Rouse, Corporate Partnerships Director at Save the Children said ‘We are delighted to hear about Johnson & Johnson’s ‘Strive for 125’ challenge to raise money for Save the Children. Through your efforts, you are raising vital funds for some of the poorest children in the UK – we know of children sleeping on cold floors for want of a bed, and living in homes without a cooker. Together we are helping children in the UK to fulfil their potential whatever their circumstances. Good luck with your Strive for 125 event and thank you so very much.’

Good luck and Thank you to all participating and supporting such a great cause and all the best with Striving for 1-2-5!
