We are team “Still Labouring for Andy’s Cause”
Mum, Joe and me are taking part as a team in the Brainathlon to raise money for Brain Research UK, Brain Tumour Research and Epilepsy Research UK. This is an event very close to all of us.
Our Brainathlon is for our beloved Andy, mums husband and my stepdad. He was taken from us all too soon from a glioblastoma multiforme. This is an aggressive cancer that he was diagnosed with in just August 2020 and died only a month later in September 2020.
The Brainathlon is combined of 3 events over a week from 19th to 25th April 2021. Mum will be walking 10 miles, Joe will be climbing 1.2 miles (2,500 stairs) and I will be running 15 miles.
More children and adults under the age of 40 die of a brain tumour than any other cancer. 5 year survival for breast and prostate cancer is 70%, leukaemia is 40% yet for brain tumours is just 12%.
Just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease.
There needs to be more done for these charities to raise money to fund the research into brain tumours and how to hopefully one day cure them.
Please join us in supporting a good cause. Whether it’s just to see mum get her sketchers on down the tarka trail, Joe complain about his aching legs whilst climbing or me going as red as a tomato out running. Any donation would be appreciated whether it’s £1 or £100 it all goes to the charities and gets split between the three.
Help us fund the fight. Together!
