Story
Hi folks,
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. The 40th London Marathon was going to be my final competitive marathon after I earned a qualifying time at the Manchester Marathon in 2019 to enter the championship race for sub-2hr 45 club runners. Coronavirus put paid to that, but on 4 October as part of the virtual London Marathon, I'll be running the full 26.2 miles in a mystery location in South Ayrshire instead. I'm still aiming to run the distance as fast as I can. I will be running in memory of my mum, Jackie Reid, who ran the London Marathon 25 years ago (you can see the photo of her crossing the finish line in my image gallery).
London Marathon raised over £66 million pounds last year, and without it, and other events like it, charities around the country are facing an estimated £10 billion shortfall this year. I'm running for Cancer Link Aberdeen and North (CLAN), who provide emotional and physical support to those affected by cancer and their family, carers and friends in north-east Scotland, Moray, Orkney and Shetland. It's been almost ten years since my mum passed away after a short battle with breast cancer, though it often feels like yesterday. CLAN provided great support on the wards where she received her chemotherapy, and they continue to help families like mine in Aberdeen and the north. Their services will be even more in demand this year, as cancer waiting times and support services are under massive pressure as a result of the pandemic. Please help by giving whatever you can - every pound will give me an incentive to run just that little bit faster on the day!
