In an effort to prove to some of my younger colleagues that people over thirty are not over the hill, incompetent and unfit I have decided to join the Detica 10k team.

Well, maybe I can't disprove all these prejudices wrong with just one run (struggling to set this page up for a week probably hasn’t helped matters), but it will at least be in aid of a very worthy cause.

Combat Stress is the leading charity in the UK specialising in the treatment of the psychological effects of combat. Combat stress is currently running a three-year fundraising campaign to:

• Establish 14 Community Outreach teams nationwide
• Enhance clinical treatment at our three short-stay treatment centres
