Story
I'm new to walking but have decided to challenge myself by taking part in scaling the heights of Ben Nevis & to use this opportunity to support a charity that means a massively great deal to myself & my family.
For those that don't know me, I suffer with this condition & have done since I was diagnosed with Meniere's Disease in 2010. Since then my life and our family life has changed dramatically. Meniere's disease is a long term, progressive disease which affects balance and hearing. Symptoms of this condition include attacks of vertigo (severe dizziness), tinnitus & deafness. Nausea, vomiting and uncontrollable sweating are also symptoms. Fluctuating, progressive, hearing loss, in one or both ears or noise may occur. Attacks of rotational vertigo can be severe, incapacitating, unpredictable, and last anywhere from minutes to hours. For some, prolonged attacks can occur, lasting from several days to several weeks. Sadly there is currently no cure for this condition.
The Meniere's Society is a charity that funds research looking into future treatments for the disease. It also provides practical and emotional support to its members and educates the wider population about this condition as well as other balance problems.
The Ben Nevis climb will definitely be a test for me under these strains with my condition but I also hope that it will be great fun. If you could lend your support Ray Bragg(My Walking Assistant & Guide) and I would be very grateful. Wish me luck!
The link below will show you the walk I will do http://www.trekkingbritain.com/bennevisfromachintee.htm
I will do the walk on the 19th of September 2015 as this is the Meniere’s Disease charity’s official Balance Awareness week from 14th - 20th September to raise greater awareness for this condition. This will also give me time to buy the right equipment I will need and to make my page aware.
