Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Oct 2014 my eldest daughter - Seren - was diagnosed with Type1 Diabetes, she was 8 years old. Two years later in Dec 2016 my youngest daughter - Imogen - was diagnosed with Type1 Diabetes, she was 7 years old.
Christmas was a tough time for all of us and brought back upsetting memories that we had to go through when Seren was diagnosed, thankfully Imogen was truly awesome. She adjusted really well and apart from closing her eyes when trying to prick her finger and a flinch when she has her injections she is doing brilliant. I am so proud of both my girls.
Seren and Imogen both have to test their blood glucose before every meal, every time they do any physical activities, every time they go to bed & their bloods are checked while they sleep. With every meal we have to give them an injection of insulin which depends on the amount of carbs in their meal. It is a relentless condition, there is no break from the blood tests & injections. Their BG levels need to be well controlled to prevent complications. To think of these is too upsetting but the reality is blindness, kidney & other organ failures & amputations due to poor circulation.
Having to deal with one child who is Type1 Diabetic was tough but having two children with Type1 Diabetes is really tough. Its made me determined to keep raising money for JDRF so that one day they will find a cure. I'm also thinking of all the many babies, children & adults who have Type 1 Diabetes, an auto immune condition that can affect anyone, nothing can prevent Type 1.
Two years ago I raised £2,437.67 for JDRF when I rode 101miles in the Wiggle Wye Valley Warrior. So when I realised that the Carten100 had chosen JDRF as this years sponsored charity I knew I had to sign up! Please give what you can because for every pound raised two of the sponsors - SofaSofa and Resolve - have pledged to donate another pound each. Which is amazing!!
