Story
Well I made it last year......just. I hit the proverbial 'wall' after about 7 or 8 miles. To the uninitiated, 'hitting the wall' is an effectively succinct way of describing how despite all your endeavour and all you best intentions, your legs pretty much stop working. And I mean, pack in altogether. Poor judgement had me overestimating the powers of my recovery and playing 90 minutes of footy the day before. It was never going to happen. Never before have I felt so debilitated than I did with an hour gone of the 2008 GNR. Somehow I managed to walk/stumble/run the remainder, with the help of mini Mars bars, ice pops, real ale and lots and lots of encouragement. My time reflected my plight and I came in a disappointing 18 or 19 mins later than planned at 2hrs 16. I can't say I enjoyed it because my lasting memory is of abject misery but I was definitely glad and proud I'd done it.
This year it's going to be different.
No more Mr Nice Guy!
I'll be prepared and I'm aiming to nail 2hrs or under. (update 11/09/09 - I've knacked me knee - this now looks ambitious, right now I'm thinking if I can do it in under 2 days I'll be happy).
