24 Hr Solo Duathlon Challenge and GUINNESS WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT.

On October 25th 2019 starting 9.00AM at The Springfield Hotel I will set out on a solo personal challenge to raise valuable funds for St Kentigern Hospice. I'll be taking on the physical and mental challenge by doing a 24-hour Duathlon to raise valuable funds for St Kentigern Hospice in St Asaph. This will also be a GUINNESS WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT.

I'm a keen athlete and have completed a number of challenges over the years ranging from cycling London to Paris, numerous triathlons, marathons, ultra-marathons and 2 x Ironman Triathlons. I have also completed the National 3 Peaks.

There's a twist to the challenge. I do ALL my training outdoors. Come rain shine, wind or snow,  no matter the weather or time of the year, I'm generally outdoors. Run or bike and the occasional swim, all outdoors!  But for this challenge, i shall be taking it indoors. For 24 Hrs i shall run and bike non stop. I shall be using a treadmill for the run and riding using a gym bike! The fact its 24 hrs, adding this as well will add a massive psychological dimension to the challenge. The plan is to run an hour and ride an hour, non-stop for 24 hours.

Add to this, it will also be a GUINNESS WORLD RECORD attempt!

The Hotel is putting the event on in their main function room so you can come along and support. Its an open public event and i can recommend thoroughly recommend the hotel as well.

The hotel has also arranged an additional run and bike machine so you can also come and sponsor an hour (or longer) on a machine next to me.

Having been a supporter of the hospice for a number of years i know only too well the pressing need for essential funding for its ongoing upkeep.

Monies can be raised by simply donating, or sponsorship or by pledging a donation to run/cycle for an hour (or longer) alongside me. Be part of this momentous fundraising effort. If local businesses or individuals would like to support me then please donate or get in touch. stephen@g-forcecommunications.com / 07793 055796

The challenge will be hosted at the Springfield Hotel, Pentre Halkyn from 9 AM on the Friday 25th October morning until 9 AM Saturday 26th. The local network group i attend, BNI Deeside will also be supporting.

St Kentigern is currently investing to ensure that the facilities at the Hospice are updated to meet the increasing needs of the local community. I’m very much looking forward to the challenge and hope that it will capture the public’s imagination and increase their awareness of the importance of the financial support that will be needed by St Kentigern Hospice well into the future”.

‘We are thrilled by this remarkable support from Steve and are looking forward to helping him achieve this challenge. It will be tough on his body, and we are very grateful of his heartwarming and courageous effort to aid the hospice, we are all behind him’

Kentigern Hospice

NOTES:

In October 2018 St Kentigern Hospice is started work on an exciting twelve month £2.5m expansion of the hospice. This will see an updated state of the art provision of facilities with a 50% increase in capacity allowing the hospice to care for more local people well into the future.

The charity provides high-quality palliative care for people in Denbighshire, Flintshire and Conwy through its services, which include an eight-patient ward, physiotherapy, day care unit for up to 15 patients, outpatient clinic, occupational therapy, bereavement support and complementary therapies.

In 2019 cost more than £1.6 million to run the Hospice which equates to more than £4300 per day. Just 16% of this will come from the Local Health Board, it is only enough funding to support the Hospice for 66 days.  The Hospice therefore greatly relies upon on the generosity of the communities it serves in North East Wales to raise the additional funding for the remaining 299 days of the year.
