Story

Hi there - Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

With my 40th birthday approaching and days in a lycra vest obviously well past me, I have decided to run the London Marathon in aid of the Derek Johnson / Mike Rawson Leukaemia Fund; a charity that has been set up to raise funds for the education and development of doctors in Leukaemia & associated conditions.

Both Derek and Mike were distinguished athletes for Great Britain and it was Derek's wishes, prior to his death, to set up this charity to help the research and development into these conditions. Whilst tremendous strides have been made in this area - thanks to the fund raising efforts of Sir Ian (Beefy) - 7,237 people in the UK were diagnosed with leukaemia in 2006 and it caused 4,350 deaths in the UK in 2007. It now represents about 3% of all cancer cases in the UK.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

If the above doesn't make you want to dig deep, surely the picture of a 'finely-tuned belly dancer' must.

I appreciate that times are tough, so any donation would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again.

Steve
