Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This year I am taking part in two Ironman distance triathlons (each consisting of a 2.5 mile swim, 112 mile cycle and 26.2 mile run) just four weeks apart, in an effort to raise money for CMT UK, the only registered UK charity dedicated to supporting people affected by Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease – the most common inherited neurological condition in the world, affecting 1 in 2500 people.
As most of you will know, I sadly lost my Dad (Cliff Knights) in September last year.
Dad suffered all his life from Muscular Atrophy, a muscle degenerative disease, now more commonly referred to as CMT.
Whilst in later life Dad’s Parkinson’s diagnosis made things very difficult for him, it was the CMT that made life so debilitating, hugely affecting his quality of life.
Dad’s sudden death at home from a massive heart attack was in someways seen as a saving grace, sparing him of any more suffering from his combined conditions. You have to search for small comforts in the face of such tragedy.
CMT UK is not one of the ‘big name’ charities, so every penny really does count. It’d be great to raise some money for them in Dad’s memory.
I’d be extremely grateful to anyone who’s able to donate even the smallest amount for this worthy cause, and will keep you updated with my race results.
