We are a 24 hour search & rescue service to save lives at sea
Story
Dear All
Who would have thought the two likely lads in black and white would, around 28 years on, be running the Virgin London Marathon on Sunday 25 April this year to raise money for two charities: the RNLI and Rianna’s Fund (www.riannasfund.org).
The RNLI
The RNLI has an active fleet of over 300 lifeboats which provide a 24 hour lifeboat search and rescue service around the coasts of the and . Since its inception, the RNLI has saved over 137,000 lives. Our family has enjoyed many, many great holidays in Morfa Nefyn on the Lynn Peninsula in North Wales (which is home to one of the RNLI’s life boat stations) - enjoying its fabulous beaches, golf course, beautiful scenery, the locals and the famous pub on the beach; the ‘Ty Coch’. We wish to give our thanks and support to the region via raising money for the RNLI in these challenging economic times.
Rianna’s FundIn January 2003, Rianna, just 8 years old, died tragically when a tree fell at her school in Ashtead Surrey. Rianna was the daughter of our Cousin Steve and his wife Debbie and sister to Olivia, Maisie and Faith. Steve and Debbie set up Rianna’s Fund with the belief and hope that they could do something positive in memory of Rianna by helping and supporting underprivileged children around the world to reach their full potential. Amongst other things, Rianna’s Fund has built a home for orphans in , a new school for over 640 children in , and more recently a new children’s home in . We want to take this opportunity to support Steve, Debbie and their family and the Rianna’s Fund for its great work, in memory of Rianna.
We would like to thank you in anticipation of your generous support and we shall let you know our finishing times in due course! For the record, Steve is aiming for around 4 hours 30 minutes and James is (desperately) trying to beat 3 hours 53 minutes which is a bench mark set by two fellow professionals (lawyers not runners - they know who they are!). We are pleased to report that at the time of writing and with only 12 weeks to go, our training is going well and we have even managed to shed a few pounds in the process!
Thanks again for your support.
Cheers
Steve and James Lappin

RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour search and rescue service all around the UK and Ireland, while lifeguards keep a careful watch on the UK’s busiest beaches. RNLI lifesaving and drowning prevention depend on supporter fundraising and the generous donations that you and others give.
