Story
Hi and welcome to my fundraising page!
In march of this year i will be travelling to Mozambique in south east africa to partake in a 3 month volunteering project in the capital city of Maputo. I am working with a UK based charity organisation, called ICYE (International Cultural Youth Exchange), who arrange volunteering placements all over the world in all kinds of disciplines. As its a 'youth exchange', part of the money that i raise helps to pay for someone in Mozambique, less fortunate than myself, to come over to the UK and volunteer. To find out more about ICYE and what they do, go to the website: http://www.icye.org.uk/
For my volunteering project, I will be working out of a soccer coaching school in Maputo with children aged between about 6 and 16 years old to try and encourage soccer and to use involvement in sport as a way of preventing criminal activities and alcohol abuse. For more information on my project see the website: http://www.icye-steps.org/poject_det.asp?Project_ID=71.
In order to fund this project, i need help to raise the money. In order to help encourage you to donate money, i have decided to do something that i told myself i would never do again! I am going to run the South Devon Trails Marathon at the end of February. In april of 2009 i ran the Pembrokeshire Trails marathon and even though the satisfaction of finishing was amazing, it was matched by the sheer pain that it left in my legs. At that point i told myself i would never do it again. However, in order to feel that i have earned your support, i will run come rain or shine! To find out more about this grueling run, including route and elevation maps see the website: http://www.endurancelife.com/event.asp?series=29&location=78
