Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As you may know I rather hastily made a commitment to try to cycle between all the SIV venues in 24 hours on the 5th July. Its nearly 200 miles and its definitely not flat! There have been many times over the last few months when I have regretted that crazy idea. Starting at 4am in Whitby North Yorkshire and ending up in Derby via Scarborough, Sheffield (13 venues) and Chesterfield. A lot of people have told me it's impossible but I have ' persuaded' 11 other victims to come with me. Most are not experienced cyclists just enthusiastic amateurs keen to undertake the challenge for such a great cause that affects so many people.
Training has been extremely time consuming and totally exhausting. Going out for hours covering 60 or 70 miles and collapsing afterwards only to realise that on the 5th July we will have to cover three times this distance. I have undertaken some tough challenges in the past but this is probably the hardest.
Why are we putting ourselves through this pain? Well so many of us have seen the effects of Dementia and Alzheimer’s on our loved ones and we are all trying to raise money to support this cause. There is no cure and its absolutely heart-breaking when your mum or dad has no idea who you are. It devastates whole families.
The idea of the 60/600 challenge came about when my wife Julie announced she was going to run the Great North Run and others volunteered to support the cause by undertaking other challenges including running marathons, half marathons, street parties, car boot sales, lunches, music quizzes, hula hooping, cake making, quilting, art commissions, dedicated song recordings, playing five golf courses in one day, company golf days, walking the Highland Way, world’s fastest zip wire, beer and banger parties, charity balls, head shaving and lots of other amazing things.
My challenge is to cycle nearly 200 miles in 24 hours. Extremely tough.
