On July 3rd 2015, 14 riders, all members of the Active Knowsley gym in Huyton (Huyton Leisure) will set off from Lands EndCornwall on a cycle journey of 970 miles, to John O’Groats a route known affectionately as the ‘LEJOG’This is the 3rd time in 6 months that the boys have ridden for charity, in December they completed an 8 hours sponsored spin session and the Alder Hey Santa ride. The boys have given much of their own time, training over weekends and evenings during the winter in preparation for covering the LEJOG.The Team will be completing the ride over the grueling route spending on some of those days up to 10 hours in the saddle. The riders will be riding for 3 local charities, Willowbrook hospice, Knowsley adult learning centre and Knowsley cemetery foxes bank chapel.
Of the team the youngest rider will be 25 and the oldest 61.
The route which will be split into 8 1/2 stages sees the lads arriving at the end of stage 4 in Huyton having cycled from Hereford (117 miles)to spend the night at home before setting off on stage 5 (113 miles) for Carlisle the following morning.
Fuelled by gels and energy bars the team aims to complete the 970mile journey in just 8 1/2days.
