Story
On the 31st August 2021 I will be walking a marathon in aid of Prostate Cancer UK. I will be joining Jeff Stelling (Sky Sports Soccer Saturday host) on his quest to complete his ‘March For Men Marathon Walking Challenge’ - his fourth multi-marathon walking challenge for Prostate Cancer UK. Jeff will be joined by fellow pundits, celebrities, managers and football fans who’ll walk 4 marathons in 4 days.
My Story
Thank you for taking the time and donating to my Just Giving
page. By completing the ‘March For Men Marathon Walking Challenge’ Yorkshire leg on the 31st August I hope to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK.
Why? Because 1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer. That’s a
dad, grandad, brother, partner or friend. So, I’m marching and raising money to fund lifesaving research to help stop this deadly disease.
This latest venture of mine, in support of a prostate cancer charity, follows on from my previous fundraising attempts. Several years ago my father Tom Cullen (who has now sadly passed) learned that he had the disease, so I decided then to run 10k races as it became a charity close to my heart. Most recently in March this year, together with my wife Cath, we completed the ‘March The Month’ Prostate Cancer UK Challenge, walking every day throughout the month
of March.
My Challenge
I will be walking the Yorkshire leg of the ‘challenge’. The route starts in Harrogate Town, and ends at Leeds United football ground, a
distance of 26.2 miles. The route takes in various sporting venues along the way including Leeds Rhinos RLFC and Yorkshire CCC.
My Aim
My aim is to complete the challenge in under 10 hours whilst
raising £800 for Prostate Cancer UK.
I am also aiming to raise awareness about prostate cancer
amongst men, and to inform anyone who wants to know more about the disease and what support is available through the charity.
The Charity
Prostate Cancer UK has a simple ambition: to stop men dying
from prostate cancer – by driving improvements in prevention, diagnosis, treatment and support.
