Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page

My name is Stephen Richard Collins I was lucky enough to be born with CP. I really think it was something to do with my mum, she did not want me to leave the warmth of her tummy so the cord was wrapped around my neck, making it hard for me to breathe, so taking away the air from my brain. As a result, my limbs do not work just as they should.

Last year I had a really bad fall and broke my leg in two pieces! I was not sure how long it would take me to get up and walking again with me being disabled. In less than 24 hours of my operation to put a frame on my broken leg I was walking - only 4 steps but I walked with the aid of a frame which I use anyway. I owe the NHS so much for getting me back on my feet which got me wondering what I could do to rise money for the NHS to say thank you and of course, my two very own helpers - my wife (who is a nurse) and my daughter (who works in the care sector).
.
Inspired by the wonderful Captain Tom Moore, who has walked 100 laps of his garden, I come up with my own idea. On 21st of April I will be 61, so my idea is to walk up and down my road every day for 61 days from my birthday. Then when the lockdown and my shielding is over I will try and walk to my local hospital for my physio appointment (where, up until the lockdown, I was going). So I would ask if you could help me raise money for the Nurses and Doctors in Calderdale & Huddersfield NHS and sponsor me on my challenge?
