So why St. Cuthbert’s?
Back in 2016, I had my first encounter with St. Cuthbert’s Hospice when in a whirlwind of devastating cancer diagnosis my beloved nana was admitted to spend her last few days. It’s hard to put into words how amazing they were at such a difficult time, but my family have committed to supporting them ever since as a small token of gratitude. We were overwhelmed by the kindness and professionalism of the staff at St Cuthbert’s. They will laugh with you and cry with you, offering support and counselling. They were also the first hospice in the country to employ a specialist dementia nurse who was really helpful in giving advice on dementia and grief - in terms of how to help my grandad cope.
What’s the challenge?
The original challenge was to run the Great North Run on 13th September 2020 for its 40th anniversary, but before that I was due to run my first marathon in May 2020 - in Bolton. I had got half way through the training plan (walked the route in Jan - who knew Bolton was so hilly?!!, started swimming again, running 3-4 times a week and had built up to long runs of 23km) when the pandemic hit and meant that both events were cancelled.
Bolton Marathon has been deferred to 2022 now but I’m delighted GNR is going ahead albeit with an alternative route. I have completed a half marathon every month since March 2020 to keep my head in this challenge (even walked them when I had a knee injury at the start of the year and couldn’t run). I completed the GNR Solo silver challenge which was 40 runs in 78 days, totalling 200 miles - ending on 13th September 2020 with a virtual version of the GNR which I completed along the Marple canal route.
Any support and donations will be much appreciated (more than ever as charities have been hit so hard with the cancellation of so many fundraising events) and will keep me motivated on the long road (run) ahead!!! 💕 Thanks for reading!
