Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Throughout May I am going to walk, cycle & swim 100 miles for the June Hancock Research Fund. This charity is close to my heart as they support research into Mesothelioma (a form of lung cancer) caused by inhaling industrial asbestos dust and fibres.

Established in 1997, The June Hancock Mesothelioma Research Fund is the UK’s first and largest independent Mesothelioma Charity. They have raised more than £1.5 million, the majority of which, is being spent on quality research into the diagnosis and treatment of Mesothelioma and the care of people with the disease.

According to a new report by ResPublica, an estimated six million tons of the deadly carcinogen remains inside 1.5 million buildings in the U.K., including schools and hospitals — many of which were built prior to the 1999 ban. Exposure to asbestos is directly connected with multiple diseases, including mesothelioma, lung cancer and asbestosis.

Sadly, our lovely dad Alan Taylor was exposed to asbestos while working in demolition in his teenage years. He was diagnosed in April 2003 with the devastating news that he had developed Mesothelioma. He hadn't yet celebrated his 50th birthday. He battled with this for 18 months, a disease which causes a great deal of pain and suffering.

Alan loved life he was always looking for that next thrill, he absolutely lived his life to the max. He had a big personality and was always joking around. He was fun loving, brave, determined and always excited for the next adventure.

This awful disease took Alan from us in September 2004 far too young and left a huge hole within our family. A disease which could have been prevented.

I am doing this challenge in memory of my dad 'Big Al' and hope that I can contribute a small amount to help others in this situation.

If you could sponsor me to do this challenge I will be so so grateful.

Thank you and wish me luck xx
