Story
Two years ago, I cycled 40 miles to raise awareness for post natal depression and afterwards I vowed never to cycle again.
However, two years is a long time, just enough for me to forget the pain of a numb backside and I have now chosen to get back in the saddle this summer and cycle 215 miles for The Alzheimer's Society and Alzheimer's Scotland. I will be cycling from Southport to Hornsea on the 15th July 2013 along the Transpennine Trail and hoping to complete it within 4 days.
All joking aside, around 800,000 people suffer from dementia in the UK alone. It can affect absolutely anyone and there is no medical cure for most forms of dementia which I personally find overwhelming. Most suffers of dementia are cared for by loved ones who may have no experience of caring for a person with dementia.
The Alzheimer's Society and Alzheimer's Scotland are working hard to support carers across the UK, giving them the much needed advice and guidance to support a loved one. The work this charity is doing is just amazing but they wouldn't be able to do it without our support.
My aim is to raise £500 by completing this cycle challenge and your donation could make all the difference.
- £10 pays for the printng of the Carers Handbook that will be distributed as part of the Live Well Campaign.
- £100 means a carer can receive 6 hours of training to better understand dementia.
- £1000 will train a trainer to transform the lives of hundreds of carers.
- £10,000 will give 60 carers the skills to give their loved one the best possible support.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now to help make a difference to so many people's lives and make my numb backside worthwhile :)
